Iran on Monday dismissed as "mere lies" press reports that two US officials had visited Tehran recently.
Local press reports said that the last US ambassador to Tehran, William Sullivan, and former security advisor Gary Sick visited Tehran and held talks with officials, said the official Iranian news agency, IRNA.
“Such reports are mere lies," Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid-Reza Assefi said at a press conference.
"They have not visited Iran and raising such issues will give rise to political turmoil in our foreign policy," he said.
Several dailies, mostly conservative, had carried such reports.
