The US-led commission investigating violence in the Palestinian territories will resume its work and return back to the territories on February 16, reported Haaretz newspaper.

Israeli sources told the paper that they believe the new US administration is interested in having the Bill Clinton-appointed committee continue its work.

Former US senator, George Mitchell, who served as mediator in North Ireland peace talks, heads over the panel that was formed following the Sharm el-Shiekh summit in October to put an end to the violence in Palestinian territories.

On January 21, Israel announced that it boycotted its contacts with the commission because it visited al-Haram al-Sharif without prior clearance from Israeli authorities.

The other panel members include former US senator, Warren Rudman, Turkish former president, Suleyman Demirel, EU foreign and security policy chief, Javier Solana and Norway's foreign minister, Thorbjorn Jagland -- Albawaba.com
