India's Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee concluded his official visit to Syria on Sunday, in which he held talk with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and other high-level officials.
In a joint statement issued at the end of the Prime Minister's visit, both Syria and India called for establishing a lasting just and comprehensive peace in the Middle East.
Both sides condemned all kinds of "terrorist acts", expressing readiness to cooperate in combating international "terrorism" in accordance with international law.
According to the official SANA news agency, Vajpayee called for ending the cycle of violence, and stressed that the recent Israeli aggression against the sovereignty of Syrian territories is an unacceptable act.
Moreover, the Indian Prime Minister reiterated his country's support to the Palestinian and Syrian causes.
With regards to Iraq, both sides, according to the agency, stated that the people of Iraq should be allowed to determine their own future and that the United Nations can play an important role in the political and economic rebuilding of Iraq. (Albawaba.com)
