Illiteracy rate in Syria down

Syria has been intensifying efforts in the field of illiteracy eradication. Director of Education for Adults Department at the Ministry of Culture Sahar Omran was quoted Tuesday as saying that the rate of illiteracy decreased to 18% in the 2002 from 60% in 1960. Ms. Omran added the number of classes opened in 2004 amounted to 2,844.
