ALBAWABA - Yemeni group, Houthis, announced on Monday targeting a ship in the Red Sea using a missile.
Houthi rebels confirmed they targeted the Liberian-flagged 'Scarlet Ray', which is Israeli-owned, claiming a direct hit.
Yemeni forces spokesman Yahya Saree said in a video statement on Monday that the forces had carried out a military operation targeting the Israeli oil tanker 'Scarlet Ray' in the northern Red Sea, revealing that the operation was carried out with a ballistic missile in support of Gaza.
The attack on the tanker comes days after the Iranian-backed group announced the killing of their prime minister and other ministers in an Israeli attack.
The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) outlined on Sunday that an attack on a vessel was reported, but added that the missile missed its target.
UKMTO maintained that the ship's crew "witnessed a splash in close proximity to their vessel from an unknown projectile and heard a loud bang." However, "All crew are safe and the vessel continues on its voyage."
Earlier in July, Houthi rebels attacked and sank two tankers amid tension with Israel, which was triggered since the start of the war in Gaza and the Yemeni group's announcement to stand with the Palestinians, by firing missiles towards Israel and blocking the Red Sea in the face of ships that are linked to Tel Aviv.
