Hizbollah on Wednesday fired mortars at Israeli positions in the occupied Shabaa Farms, triggering retaliatory fire, according to reports.
It was unclear whether there were any injuries in the attack by the Islamic resistance group.
According to AFP, at least 15 mortar rounds were fired on two Israeli posts in Sammaqa and Rowaissat Al Aalam, adding that the Sammaqa post received a direct hit and clouds of smoke were seen billowing into the sky over the position.
The Israeli army retaliated by shelling the areas of Halta, Mazraat Bustara, Saddana and the outskirts of Kfar Shuba, located on the other side of the border fence, Lebanese police were quoted as saying by AFP.
Earlier Wednesday, Hizbollah guerrillas fired anti-aircraft guns at Israeli jet fighters violating south Lebanon's airspace for the third consecutive day.
Hizbollah's attacks come after almost three months of calm between the Lebanon-based resistance militia and the Israeli army.
Israel claims the Shabba Farms belongs to Syria, while both Damascus and Beirut say the area belongs to the latter Arab state, and should have been returned to Lebanon when Israeli troops withdrew in May 2000.
Hizbollah had earlier vowed "direct military intervention" against Israel to support the latest Palestinian uprising against 34 years of military occupation.
