A high-level delegation from the Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM), one of the world's largest multi-modal marine transportation companies, visited the Jebel Ali Port to gain an up-close view of the world-class facilities offered by the port, and to seek ways to enhance business relations.

The HMM delegation inspected from close quarters some of the most advanced container handling equipment available in the world, such as the Tanden Lif Cranes. The visiting team was also shown other top-of-the-line facilities offered by the Jebel Ali Port, including the largest Lloyds-approved Cold Store in the Middle East, and the dedicated timber, bulk and aluminum handling terminals.

The delegation included J.H. Kang, General Manager, HMM Dubai, J.B. Cho, HMM Dubai, and Francis Almeida, General Manager of Trident Shipping, agents for HMM.

Commenting on the visit of the Korean delegation, Jamal Majed bin Thaniah, CEO, Dubai Ports Authority (DPA), said: "The Jebel Ali Port is one of the busiest and most advanced in the world. The port's recent acquirement of the latest equipment such as the Tandem Gantry cranes, which allow faster and more efficient handling of containers, has prompted shipping companies around the world to take keen interest in availing its facilities as well as to enhance business volume. The visit of the HMM delegation was in keeping with this trend."
"The delegation was extremely appreciative of the excellent infrastructure facilities offered by the port and the quality of the services provided. The meeting also discussed possible measures to enhance business cooperation," bin Thaniah added.

The HMM delegation was accompanied by Song Soung-Ho, a leading South Korean journalist who is in the process of drafting a comprehensive feature for the Korean media about the Jebel Ali Port, covering its history, achievements as well as future plans.

Dubai Ports Authority registered a 26 per cent growth in containers handled during the first quarter of 2005, compared to the corresponding period in 2004. Last year, the twin terminals of Jebel Ali and Port Rashid handled a combined 14,035 vessels, including 5,325 container vessels.
