Hamas says attacks on Israel to continue; Israel makes arrests in West Bank, Gaza Strip

Hamas founder, Sheikh Ahmed Yassin said Saturday that agreement between all Palestinian factions is forbidden if it calls to the acknowledgment of the State of Israel. Yassin was speaking in an interview with the Qatar-based satellite station Al-Jazeera.  

 

Yassin said there was no disagreement within Hamas over attacks against Israel. Every one within Hamas agrees they have to continue, he said. Yassin added that contacts with other Palestinian groups over a joint policy statement were continuing, rejecting Palestinian Authority statements accusing Hamas of torpedoing the talks.  

 

Israeli troops rounded up and detained Saturday several dozen Palestinians in Hebron, checking their identification cards and taking them to Israeli-controlled parts of the city, witnesses said. Soldiers used also stun grenades, witnesses said.  

 

Doctors at Hebron's Al-Ahli Hospital said at least five Palestinians were treated for shrapnel injuries and burns caused by the exploding casings of the grenades.  

 

Also Saturday, the Israeli army reported it had arrested three "wanted Palestinians" in the Gaza town of Rafah, close to the Egyptian border. Israel Radio reported that the three were taken away by security forces for questioning.  

 

One Israeli woman was lightly wounded Saturday when Palestinians threw stones at cars travelling between Jerusalem and the settlement of Ma'ale Adumim, Israel Radio reported.  

 

The woman was wounded when one of the stones shattered her windshield. Witnesses said the stones came from the nearby village of Issawiya. Israeli olice were searching the area. 

 

Two Palestinian teenagers were wounded Friday in a stone-throwing clash with Israeli troops in the West Bank city of Nablus, after which a gunfight erupted between Palestinian fighters and soldiers, city residents said. Israel Radio reported that one Palestinian, who attempted to throw an explosive device at Israeli soldiers, was seriously wounded by Israeli gunfire. 

 

Israeli troops exchanged fire with armed Palestinians in the town of Jenin, north of Nablus, Israeli military and Palestinians sources said. There were no reports of casualties. 

 

Also on Friday Israel arrested Palestinian sniper, Sudki Zaro. Israel claims he had participated in many shooting attcks in the area.  

 

Additionally, the Israeli army handed over on Friday the bodies of two Palestinians who were killed Thursday midnight on their way to carry out an armed attack against Israel, Palestinian security and medical sources said.  

 

The two were killed near the Kisofim junction in south eastern Gaza Strip near the border with Israel. Israeli troops stationed in the area found a bag full of explosive devices with the Palestinians.  

 

Medical sources at the Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis said that two ambulances headed to the area and picked up the two bodies in coordination between Israeli army soldiers and Palestinian public security officers. (Albawaba.com)
