A Gaza Strip security chief loyal to Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas died in a car blast Wednesday afternoon. The victim was identified as Nabil Hodhod, head of the elite Preventive Security Service in central Gaza Strip.

Earlier, five Hamas activists were shot by unidentified gunmen in two separate incidents in Gaza Wednesday morning, security and medical sources said. Sources said one of the wounded died later of his injuries.

In one of the incidents in Gaza City, two members of Al-Qassam brigade, the military wing of Hamas were injured when unidentified gunmen opened fire at them.

Reports said Fatah gunmen were apparently behind the shootings.

The two incidents came two days after Hamas and Fatah have agreed on withdrawing armed men from the streets of the Gaza Strip in an attempt to reduce tensions.
