Israel's Likud party leader and prime ministerial candidate Ariel Sharon charged Wednesday that prime Minister Ehud Barak plans to cede the Dead Sea to Palestinian control in future peace deals, reported Haaretz newspaper, quoting a report by the Army Radio.
It quoted Sharon as telling Jewish settlers in that area that "Barak's diplomatic policy has brought us to one of the most difficult situations Israel has ever known."
"People speak of the Jordan Rift, but they forget that he also intends to hand over the Dead Sea," Sharon continued.
Asked about a Tuesday Barak remark equating Sharon with the wolf-in-grandmother's-clothing from the children's story of Little Red Riding Hood, the Likud leader said:
