The visiting Greek President Costis Stephanopoulos held on Sunday talks with Syrian Vice President Abdelhalim Khaddam on the latest international developments and the aftermath of September 11th attacks, said agencies.
Syrian presidential spokesman was quoted as saying that the two sides “tackled the situation in the Middle East area and the role of Israel in hindering peace process by its non-adherence to the UN resolutions and its constant aggressions and atrocities on Palestinians.”
On Saturday, President Stephanopoulos held talks with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on the main causes in the region and the world topped by the deadlocked Middle East peace process.
Assad said that the Israeli anti-peace government led the peace process to this deadlock and stressed that Syria wants peace and has no conditions except the adherence to UN resolutions and land-for-peace principle.
For his par! t, the Greek president said that his country supports the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people through establishing their independent state.
Stephenipoulos said that true peace cannot be achieved unless all parties respect the UN Security Council resolutions 242 and 338 and when the occupied Golan Heights return to Syria. (albawaba.com)
