The family of Ibrahim Goshe is expressing increasing anxiety over the health of the Hamas leader, as the standoff at Amman’s airport over his attempted return to Jordan drags into its third week.
Ghoshe’s wife expressed her concern over her husband’s deteriorating health to Albawaba.com on Wednesday, saying she had not been able to talk to her husband despite his presence a few kilometers away from his family.
“Lawyer Saleh Al Armouti obtained permission from the court to see my husband, but the minister of interior blocked him,” she said.
“His family has the right to see him. We want to be reassured about his health, she said, adding “We don’t know what he is accused of. The most dangerous criminals on earth have the right to meet their families and friends. What is the crime that Abu Omar (Ghoshe) has committed?”
She said her husband had informed the Jordanian government that he “would stop all of his media and political activities inside Jordan and live as any other ordinary citizen who has rights and responsibilities.”
But the Jordanian government, she said, demanded that Goshe renounce his Hamas membership.
Jordanian Minister of Information Saleh Al Ghallab blames Qatar for creating the deadlock by allowing Goshe to attempt a return from exile without renouncing his Hamas membership – the kingdom’s condition for lifting the entry ban.
Meanwhile, the Islamic Hamas resistance movement insists that Goshe be allowed to return to Jordan, where he holds citizenship, after over a year of exile in Qatar. Hamas sources have confirmed the failure of all mediation efforts.
Goshe’s wife said she had been in continuous touch with Hamas leaders abroad in order to keep abreast of the latest developments and mediation efforts to end the crisis, but they had informed her that no tangible results had been achieved - Albawaba.com
