Toshiba’s Computer Systems Division unveils today at Gitex its first notebook with integrated 3G/3G+ capability, the Portégé M400-3G Tablet PC. The embedded 3G/3G+ access will enable users to connect to email, internet and data networks without using a separate PC card, simplifying connectivity and providing access to critical business data anytime, anywhere.
Toshiba customers will now have access to 3G and 3G broadband high-speed services (HSDPA), which significantly increase download speeds to around 1.8Mbps and upload speeds up to 400 Kbps. When a customer moves into areas without 3G+ broadband coverage, the network automatically switches to 3G or GPRS, so that regardless of where a user roams, data availability is ensured and customers can remain connected to business critical data via the well-established GPRS data service.
“Business professionals need connectivity and email on the go, but up to now they haven’t been able to stay connected easily; the technology developed by Toshiba for the Portégé makes this a reality,” said Ahmed Khalil, general manager, Toshiba Computer Systems Middle East and Africa. “With widespread availability of 3G/3G+ networks and compatible devices, we’re now entering the next stage of mobile working – one where the consumer is in control and they can seamlessly gain access to email or internet on the move.”
HSDPA, High-Speed Downlink Packet Access is an upgrade to existing 3G networks originally built based on the UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System) standard. 3G networks upgraded to HSDPA are anticipated to deliver three to four times the data capacity and three to four times the data access rates of UMTS.
3G broadband is designed to meet the needs of today’s ‘work anywhere’ business culture, as more and more people access their business critical data on the move or away from the office. The Portégé M400-3G is the first notebook to bring this outside a mobile phone and onto a device that allows users to work more efficiently, productively and access the fastest mobile data speeds available.
The Portégé M400 is designed for even the most mobile and demanding business users, and features the latest Intel® Centrino® 2 Duo Mobile technology, up to 100GB hard disk and Toshiba RAID-1 support, which protects user data by providing an automatic backup, thus minimising downtime.
The Portégé series demonstrates a perfect balance between function, style, weight and ultra-portability, and comes equipped with the Toshiba EasyGuard suite of technologies for carefree mobile computing, top end performance on the go, impressive power, speed and expandability to handle any task.
The product will be available in Middle East in Q1 2007. Toshiba is currently finalizing agreements with operators in the region to assure customers a seamless customer experience.
