German President Johanna Rau on Saturday hailed Cairo and Berlin's "excellent" ties, adding that he was looking forward to meeting his Egyptian counterpart, Hosni Mubarak, reported Al Ahram daily.
The German president sent a letter to Mubarak, describing him as “one of the leading figures in the Middle East to achieve peace in the region,” said the paper.
He said that Egyptian-German relations had developed greatly in recent years.
The message was conveyed by Egypt’s ambassador in Berlin, Mahmoud Mubarak, said the paper.
Mubarak visited Berlin in April during a European tour that also took him to Romania and Russia – Albawaba.com
