German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder will visit Iran soon, reported Iran News Agency (IRNA), quoting German officials as saying Tuesday.

The German News Agency DPA reported earlier that Schroeder had cancelled his plan to visit Iran following the severe rulings on Iranian participants in the Berlin conference, said the agency.

The Berlin conference, staged in April by a foundation with links to Germany's Green party, centered on the future of political reforms in Iran after reformists won a parliamentary majority in last February's elections.

The gathering, which was disrupted by the Iranian opposition in exile, was deemed "un-Islamic," in part because a man disrobed in protest and a woman danced with bare arms.

One official told the agency that "Germany is interested in deepening the Tehran-Berlin bilateral ties."
