In Kuwait, leaders of the six Gulf Arab states approved a pact to coordinate efforts in combating "terror" following a series of deadly bomb attacks in the Saudi kingdom.
The leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), wrapping up a two-day annual summit, entrusted their ministers of interior to sign the joint agreement to fight "terrorism" at a later date.
"Expressing keen interest in boosting joint security cooperation and coordination to fight terror, the summit approves the signing of the GCC agreement to combat terrorism," said the final communique on Monday, read by Secretary General Abdulrahman al-Attiya.
The summit in Kuwait City voiced "strong condemnation of the brutal terror attacks which targeted residential compounds" in Riyadh in May.
Moreover, it praised the "competence and ability of the Saudi security forces in aborting criminal terror attempts" discovered in Mecca.
The Gulf leaders declared their solidarity with the Saudi kingdom and support for all measures it has taken to safeguard its security and stability.
The leaders restated their long-standing stance of condemning all forms of "terrorism" and approved recommendations that GCC member states should ratify international conventions for fighting "terror".
Moreover, the communique said the leaders discussed latest security developments at the domestic, regional and international arenas against the backdrop of "serious terror attacks" and their implications for the stability of GCC member states, according to AFP.
However, they also called for "distinguishing between terrorism and the rights of people in the legitimate struggle to liberate their territories in accordance with international law," referring to the Palestinian struggle against Israel.
