Gaza Strip: Israel completes demolition operation as agreement with Egypt signed

The last home left standing in Neve Dekalim settlement was destroyed on Thursday, ending the Israel’ s Gaza Strip home demolition operation. In total, some 2,530 homes were razed in Gaza Strip, and 270 were bulldozed in northern West Bank last week.

According to Ynetnews, the Israeli army has already withdrawn 95 percent of its military equipment from the Strip, and will complete the process in coming days. The Israeli army is planning on withdrawing all of its forces from the Strip by September 15, and transfer the area to Palestinian control.

Meanwhile, Egyptian and Israeli officers signed on Thursday an agreement enabling 750 Egyptian soldiers to deploy along the "Philadelphi" route on the border with the Gaza Strip, overriding a demilitarization clause in the 1979 peace treaty.

Egypt will start deploying soldiers as early as Sunday, Israeli defense officials said Thursday, according to Haaretz.
