Qatar Science & Technology Park and Gartner Lee, a Canada-based environmental services firm, announced today that the company will establish its regional headquarters at QSTP, focusing on the development and application of environmental and waste-management technologies.

With over ten thousand projects in thirty countries under its belt, Gartner Lee will be looking to apply its expertise in environmental planning and assessments, water management and waste management to Qatar’s needs.  Gartner Lee will undertake research at QSTP to adapt its models and techniques to Qatar’s unique environmental conditions and industries.  By involving local partners in these development activities, Gartner Lee aims to transfer its technology to the country.

Gartner Lee's General Manager for the Middle East, Mr. Peter Klaassen, said, "We’ve seen our business in the Middle East steadily growing in recent years, so the time was right to invest in regional headquarters.  We’ve been very impressed by Qatar’s commitment to adopting – and enforcing – strict environmental standards.  And because we need to undertake R&D to adapt our technologies to local conditions, Qatar Science & Technology Park was clearly the ideal location.”

His Excellency Dr Abdullah Al Kubaisi, Chairman of QSTP, said, "Gartner Lee's expertise in environmental and waste technologies is certainly a welcome addition to QSTP.  Qatar’s environment is one of our priority areas, and we are confident Gartner Lee will make a positive impact.  We are also pleased to see companies seizing the opportunity to establish a permanent home in Qatar to develop and deliver their technology, instead of flying out at the end of a project and taking their knowledge with them.”

Gartner Lee, a 200-person company with 16 offices worldwide, plans to open at QSTP in August.  In its early phase, the company will focus on forging relationships with local partners, developing its environmental and waste-management technologies, establishing training programs, and providing consulting services to Qatar and the Gulf region.  In the long term, Gartner Lee sees the potential for Qatar to become an environmental centre of excellence, exporting the combined know-how of its organisations throughout the region.

Qatar Science & Technology Park is creating the ideal environment in which to develop and commercialise technology.  It provides world-class facilities and services for companies from around the globe, and is fostering start-up technology enterprises.  Located in Qatar’s renowned Education City, QSTP tenants have access to the region’s leading research universities and their highly qualified graduates.  QSTP will also be one of Qatar’s first free-trade zones, making it easy and attractive to set up a wholly-owned company in the country.  By encouraging local technology development, QSTP is creating opportunities for scientists and entrepreneurs from across the Middle East, and spurring innovations that will benefit the region’s industry and society.

Gartner Lee is a professional consulting services company that provides environmental strategies and solutions to industry and government. Since the company’s founding in 1973, it has successfully completed thousands of projects for domestic and international clients in more than 30 countries around the world.
