A total amount of 21 soldiers and suspected Islamist fighters have been killed in the latest reported extremist violence ravaging Algeria, newspapers reported on Saturday.
In attacks ahead of local elections and coinciding with an African Union terrorism convention in the capital Algiers, the soldiers were killed in overnight ambushes on Thursday in Bouira, some 120 kilometers southeast of the capital Algiers, and in Batna, about 430 kilometers to the southeast, the newspapers El Khabar and Ech-Chourouk reported.
