French Fashion University Esmod International (FFUEI), the UAE branch of the international fashion institution, will be hosting an ‘extravagance’ themed fashion show tomorrow night (December 20) at the school’s Academic City Campus. Students will be exhibiting their ‘extravagance - skirts only’ creations during the fashion show, representing the newly-opened school’s emergence onto the country’s fashion industry.
“Esmod has been a leading name in the international fashion industry for more than 160 years and has influenced French fashion throughout the world. The fashion show is a great opportunity for these young designers of the future to exhibit their creations and display an appealing mix of Middle Eastern and European influences,” said Tamara Hostal, Associate Director PR & Marketing, FFUEI.
Established in 1841 by Frenchman Alexis Lavigne, Esmod is the oldest and most prominent school associated with international fashion education. Founded in Paris, Esmod was the first institution to codify couture by inventing tools used by fashion designers such as the mannequin and the measuring tape. Since then, the school has opened in 20 countries and trained generations of professionals who have worked for international stylists such as Dior, Saint-Laurent, Kenzo, Paco Rabanne, Gaultier and Givenchy.
In October 2006, Esmod opened its Dubai-based French Fashion University, directed at tapping into the region’s booming fashion industry and the growing demand of Middle Eastern consumer’s for haute culture. The school prepares the country’s future fashionistas with the capacity to create and produce fashion, carving the way for leading names in fashion design to emerge from the UAE in future years.
FFUEI offers a range of creative, technical and marketing programs for students wishing to become actors of the growing fashion industry in the region. Subjects include fashion illustration, pattern drafting, knowledge of textiles and history of fashion, in addition to a special course that teaches Abaya and Sheila design with a French touch. Various courses are taught by the French-trained instructors, including a three-year full time bachelor’s course, a two-year part time diploma and short certificate course. Additionally, master-classes in trend forecasting and fashion media communication, as well as a six month fashion workshop are open to the public, with the fashion workshop starting on January 7th.
“Opportunities are being created for people in the UAE wishing to pursue a career in fashion and to capitalise on the region’s emergence on the world fashion destination. Doors of opportunity will open to students after studying at FFUEI as the school operates according to rigid standards of quality. The fashion show tomorrow night will offer an insight into the up-and-coming fashion scene that this country is likely to expect in the next couple of years,” Hostal concluded.
The Extravagance Fashion Show will be held at the French Fashion University Esmod International’s Academic City Campus on Wednesday December 20th at 8pm. Attendance at the show is by invitation only.
