France and Morocco have agreed on a joint venture to train Moroccans in applying engineering skills to military systems.
The joint venture will train 20 Moroccan engineers who were hired in September, and then the training program will be extended to employees hired in 2001 and next year.
According to Middle East Newsline (MENL), the new company, Assystem Maroc, is based in Casablanca and is 80 percent owned by Assystem Maroc and the remainder by Snecma Moteurs.
Morocco obtains many of its military systems from Snecma group, including the Larzac-powered Alpha Jet and the Atar 9K50-powered Mirage F1.
Executives were quoted by the news service as saying that “Assystem Maroc will apply its design engineering skills to the aerospace, rail, automotive and naval industries.” – Albawaba.com
