Sheikh Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Bahrain’s Crown Prince, is to lay the foundation stone for a new town in the Northern Governorate on October 3rd.

The project is in the framework of a plan to construct four new towns to meet the rising demands for housing in the island, Sheikh Khalid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Minister of Housing and Agriculture, announced Saturday.

The project, which is being implemented under the directives of King Sheikh Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, was given top priority amongst the new development plans approved by the Cabinet, he said. It is aimed at citizens who cannot afford to build homes.

According to Gulf News, the plan for the new town in the Northern Governorate is "extraordinarily important because it will be the first town to be built during the reign of Sheikh Hamad."

He said the Housing and Construction Committee, chaired by the Crown Prince, invited tenders from the international consulting offices to study and make blueprints for the towns. They will sign the relevant agreements in the forthcoming days.

"The welfare of the Bahraini citizens is our goal and we will continue to work to meet their needs. To achieve this, we will work with the relevant government organizations and international consulting establishments for the planning of modern towns which meet the citizens' needs." (Albawaba.com)
