Vasco Goncalves, a former prime minister of Portugal, who played a key part in the 1974 April revolution that toppled 48 years of right-wing dictatorship in Portugal, died Saturday. He was 83.

Goncalves was prime minister of four socialist provisional governments between 1974 and 1975 before being ousted by a more moderate wing in August 1975.
