Interim Friday Prayer Leader of Tehran and former Iranian president Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, condemning Israeli crimes in attacking Lebanon and Gaza Strip, said on Friday that attacking Lebanon was based on a US, and probably British plot.

Addressing thousands of worshipers at Tehran University, Rafsanjani added, "The ongoing developments in the southern Lebanon region and Palestine leaves a historic blot on the reputation of the international organizations and the big world powers, and are also a big shame for the Arab and Islamic countries, that are merely witnesses to such crimes."

According to IRNA, he said that the recent criminal acts committed by Israel were "a satanic plot", that could be a part of the United States so called Greater Middle East Plan.

Rafsanjani also referred to the efforts made by the mass media affiliated to the global oppressor powers, as well as those run by the Zionist mafia, aimed at distorting the realities of the ongoing clashes, arguing, "The announcement of the real cause for these aggressive moves as the detainment of two Israeli soldiers by the Western media is a historic oppressive move, whose dimensions need to be clarified."

Rafsanjani added, "Although the majority of world nations do not hear our comments, that is not the real cause for the Zionists' criminal acts, since the Israelis started working on the US, and probably joint US-British plot, a couple of weeks ago."

The influential head of Iran's Expediency Council strongly rejected any involvement of Iran and Syria in recent Middle East crisis, arguing, "These are big lies, since they are after disarming Hizbullah in Lebanon, and that move is definitly the prelude to other important plots."

The former Iranian president referred to Israel's usage of its entire armed forces, including the Zionist Army, Navy and Air Force in committing its recent crimes, adding, "Israel launched hundreds of warplane flights over such Lebanese civilian regions in which there were neither any munitions storage, nor any military barracks, bombing them blindly."

He said, "Although the majority of destruction is in Shi'a inhabited regions, there is no difference among the Shi'a, the Sunni, and the Christian victims of such crimes from out point of the view."
