Russia's Foreign Ministry said Wednesday that it was in touch with Egyptian authorities on the detention of five Russian students at an Islamic university in the capital of Cairo who are accused of "illegal activities".
Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Yakovenko said in a
statement posted on the ministry's website that the
Egyptian authorities had pledged to provide more details on
the case as the investigation into the matter goes on.
Russia's NTV television said that the five men, who were arrested earlier this week, are suspected of being linked to "extremist groups" in the North African country of Egypt. (Albawaba.com)
