Australia's Foreign Minister Alexander Downer ‏said ‏Tuesday that the opposition party should currently set a timetable for ‏‏the pullout of Australian troops from Iraq.‏

Australian Radio picked up in Kuwait Tuesday quoted Downer as saying that Au‏stralian soldiers in Iraq were playing a "pivotal role" and should not leave the country ‏before schedule.‏

Downer expressed hope that opposition Labor leader Mark Latham would understand the importance‏ of Australian existence in Iraq.‏

Latham, who is currently leading in opinion polls, said Tuesday that if he were to win the elections due in October or November, he would bring ‏all Australian troops home by the end of the year. (Albawaba.com)
