Flowers Exports Earned Morocco $7.2 million in 2000

Morocco has exported 2,132 tons of flowers and flower buds in 2000 for a value of DH79.31 million ($7.2 million), declining by 0.6 percent in terms of quantity and a 5.7 percent drop in value as compared with the year before. 

According to Morocco’s official news agency (MAP), the German market soaked up, until last July, 67, percent of Moroccan flowers, followed by France which took 9 percent, Switzerland (8 percent) and North America (5 percent). 

Meanwhile, flower-growing areas, for the 1999-2000 season, extended over more than 230 hectares, including 188 hectares of greenhouses, said the official agency.
