In Tehran, five young taxi-drivers have been sentenced to death for raping a young woman, newspapers reported Monday.
The weekly Jelveh said the men were found guilty of kidnapping the woman last summer and raping her under the threat of a knife, according to AFP. The woman boarded a taxi alone and the driver stopped off to pick up four colleagues who also took part in the crime.
Newspapers regularly report taxi-drivers being condemned for kidnapping or rape. Unofficial taxi-drivers who cruise the streets of the republic’s capital to make a living or supplement their income are estimated to number more than 100,000. (Albawaba.com)
