About ten female Filipino guest workers seek assistance from their embassy in Bahrain every month for reasons ranging from unpaid salaries to maltreatment and physical abuse, an embassy spokesman said Saturday, quoted by the Gulf Daily News.
However, “this number represents less than one percent of the estimated 6,000 Filipinos working as domestic helpers in Bahrain,” the official told the paper.
Meanwhile, the officials said that other Filipino housemaids had attempted to commit suicide in the past because of abuse.
“Thankfully, none of these attempts have been successful,” he said.
“If we are talking about the percentage of Filipino housemaids seeking our assistance, it is far less than one percent of the total population of Filipino housemaids in Bahrain.
"We estimate them to number roughly 6,000, although we are still waiting for the results of the last census to know for sure," he said – Albawaba.com
