Several Iranians, including a man and his son, were injured Wednesday evening after a pro-reform lecture session, attended by Iran's deputy parliament speaker, turned into a violent scuffle in western Iran, reported the official Iranian news agency (IRNA).
The clash took place at the Rasoul-e Akram mosque between those who opposed Behzad Nabavi's pro-reform statements and those who supported them, said the agency.
Police rushed out Nabavi unscathed as the two rival groups started chanting slogans which proceeded the brawl.
A group calling itself Ansar-e Hizbullah tore apart a written petition which some of the participants had signed, calling for President Mohammad Khatami to seek re-election in the June presidential polls.
Police later intervened to put end to the clashes and scatter those behind the brawl, said the agency – Albawaba.com
