The Moroccan movie director, Jilali Ferhati, has recently won the grand prize of the 12th Tetuan film Festival, for his movie "Memory in Detention" (produced in 2004). The movie, reports <i>Maghreb Arabe Press</i>, tells the story of a delinquent freed from prison, who joins another former inmate, suffering from amnesia, to help him look for his relative. But their quest for the amnesiac former prisoner’s relative, quickly transforms into a journey to their prison memories. The main themes of the movie are played by Ferhati himself and by Mohamed Mezouari.
Jilali Ferhati was born in 1948 in the Northern town of Tangier and later studied sociology. He produced his first movies in 1977 “A Breach in the Wall”, in 1981 “A Reeds Doll” and in 1991 “The Beach of Lost Children”.
