The Palestinian Fateh mainstream movement on Friday accused the Israeli army of trying to assassinate one of its members in the West Bank, reported AFP. Meanwhile, a security meeting is scheduled to be held between PA and Israeli officials later Friday.

Fateh member Sharif Kinibi, 22, was seriously wounded when he was shot in the back by an Israeli soldier posted on a nearby rooftop during clashes in the flashpoint town of Hebron, Fateh officials told AFP.

Israel's security cabinet decided this week to give the army the green light to pursue so-called targeted attacks on suspected Palestinian militants despite a ceasefire accord negotiated by the United States.

Three Intifada activists were killed Sunday in the West Bank when their car was obliterated by missiles fired from an Israeli helicopter.

What the Israeli government is calling "active self-defense" but even the Hebrew press calls liquidation has been criticized by European countries, the United States and the United Nations.

UN Secretary General Kofi Annan on Thursday called the policy illegal and a violation of human rights, as well as contradicting "the spirit, if not the letter" of a ceasefire agreement negotiated by the United States but repeatedly broken since it came into effect more than three weeks ago.

Meanwhile, a security meeting between the PA and Israel is expected Friday afternoon, a Palestinian security source told AFP, adding the exact place and time have not been specified yet.

The meeting was set at the last meeting on Monday, which failed. The source told the agency that the Palestinians will demand a complete Israeli lift of the blockade on the Palestinian lands and a halt to hostilities.

In a related report, Haaretz quoted General Abd al-Razeq Al Mujaideh, Palestinian National Security head in the Gaza Strip, as saying that Palestinian expectations were low for the scheduled security meeting.

An American CIA official will also attend the meeting, said the report.

Majaideh said, meanwhile, tha Palestinian security forces prevented 17 attacks against Israel since the beginning of the US-brokered cease-fire on June 13

He stressed that the attacks were prevented without arresting even one Palestinian activist – Albawaba.com
