One Israeli woman was killed and two others were injured when one Palestinian infiltrated the settlement of Mehora in the Jordan Valley on Saturday night and opened fire, Israel TV reported.
Jordan Valley settlements spokesperson said that at approximately 10 P.M. (1900 GMT) Palestinians infiltrated Mehora and residents reported gunshots in the settlement, located east of the Palestinian city of Nablus.
The Palestinians was killed by Israeli security forces, reports said. The military wing of Fatah claimed responsibility for the attack.
"While the Israeli government tries to find ways of renewing peace negotiations and easing conditions of the Palestinian community, Palestinian terrorists continue to attack and kill innocent Israelis," Israeli Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Yaffa Ben-Ari said.
The attack came hours after PA interior minister told CIA Director George J. Tenet that Palestinian security arrangements on the West Bank were in chaos as a result of Israel's military incursion but were being reformed and rebuilt.
Palestinian policemen trying to do their job face detention or worse at the hands of Israeli soldiers, Abdel Razak Yehiyeh told Tenet at CIA headquarters in northern Virginia, said sources close to the Palestinian delegation.
According to AP, Yehiyeh told Tenet he was revamping what remains of a Palestinian security force and firing officers he found to be incompetent. Yehiyeh presented his plan for bolstering security to Tenet, who said he would evaluate the findings of the CIA assessment team.
The CIA director assured Yehiyeh in their 90-minute meeting that he would have agency officials resume the contacts in the areas soon. (Albawaba.com)
