The UN Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) has donated Sudan $1.3 million to assist the country “cover the food gap,” said FAO representative in Khartoum on Saturday.
“FAO will contribute to bridging the food gap in Sudan, where 420,000 tons are needed,” said Abdallah Al-Tahir Bin Yahya, quoted by the official Sudan News Agency (SUNA).
The UN urged the international community early this year to extend assistance to the drought-affected areas in Sudan.
“Sadly, there is still a lack of response to the UN call,” he said, urging the international community to speed up its response.
The UN official said that the total value of FAO program in Sudan reached $6,1 million, including humanitarian aid to the war-affected areas and drought-hit areas, according to SUNA – Albawaba.com
