Four Israelis and a Palestinian child received organ transplants from a Palestinian who was shot dead in east Jerusalem, a medical source said Monday.

Mazen el-Djulani, 34, a chemist from east Jerusalem's Beit Hanina neighborhood, was shot at point-blank range Friday by an unidentified individual as he was sitting at a cafe in the nearby Shoafat quarter.

According to Palestinian witnesses, he was killed by an Israeli for nationalist motives.

But the Jerusalem police said the murder was committed by a Palestinian and was not related to the eight-month Palestinian uprising.

One of Djulani's kidneys went to a 13-year-old Palestinian from east Jerusalem, and the other organs were given to three Jews and an Arab.

His family gave its consent to donate his lungs, liver, kidney and pancreas to an Israeli organ bank -- JERUSALEM (AFP)
