ALBAWABA - Explosions rocked the Syrian capital, Damascus, with suspicions pointing towards Israeli involvement, as reported by state media.

The targeted building, located in the Mazzeh neighborhood, is believed to have been hit due to Israeli aggression, resulting in five reported casualties. Mazzeh, situated to the west of Damascus, is home to a military airbase and hosts several diplomatic missions.

In the latest development, Syrian state media unveiled details of explosions in Damascus, hinting at Israeli responsibility for the attack. According to SANA, the official news agency, the assault on a Mazzeh neighborhood building was attributed to Israeli aggression.

The London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, drawing from local sources, observed "smoke clouds" in various parts of the city, indicating an initial estimate of five lives lost in the incident.

An eyewitness in the western Mazzeh area, speaking to AFP, recounted witnessing "explosions" and "a significant smoke plume." They remarked that the sound resembled a missile explosion, followed by the distant wails of ambulance sirens.

Tensions in the region have been on the rise since the Israel-Gaza conflict. Mazzeh, a key district in western Damascus, accommodates a military airbase and is a hub for diverse diplomatic missions, including the United Nations headquarters, as well as the embassies of Lebanon and Iran.

The reported incident unfolded on a Saturday in the Mazzeh neighborhood of western Damascus. It follows a previous episode last month when a senior commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard was killed in a suspected Israeli airstrike near Damascus.
