"Lack of management and innovation in weaving methods, bad quality of colors as well as existing undesirable materials, brokers and finally lack of governmental support have caused carpet industry in Iran faces with a tangible slump", Shokrollah Kolahdouzan, a well-known carpet designer and weaver told the Iranian official news agency (IRNA)..

Stressing that the Iranian hand-woven carpets need support as far as regulations and rules are concerned, Kolahdouzan added that to compete with the other countries' carpets, implementing a change and review in carpet's design and colors is necessary.

Regarding the obstacles before carpet industry in the country, other experts were quoted in the report as saying that import and production of foreign machine-woven carpets as well as import of wools are among the main factors of damage.

Lack of necessary attention to domestic and international marketing as well as recognition of different tastes are of important problems in the country's carpet production and exports.

Establishment of training and research centers to achieve the latest information in marketing and holding special and scientific training courses in the field of carpet export are effective measures to save this industry said experts.
