ALBAWABA - Morocco's El-Huz region is witnessing a grim reality unfold in the wake of a powerful 6.8 magnitude earthquake.

The latest updates from the Moroccan Ministry of Interior paint a somber picture, revealing a steadily rising death toll that now stands at 2,012. Equally concerning is the tally of injuries, which has surged to 2,059.

Among these injured individuals, a troubling 1,404 people find themselves in critical condition, emphasizing the urgency of medical care required. The epicenter of this seismic catastrophe appears to be El-Huz and Taroudant, where the loss of life has been most pronounced.

Compounding the tragedy are the adversities faced by survivors. Many have been compelled to spend their nights in makeshift camps, a consequence of ongoing aftershocks that deter a safe return to homes. In addition to the fear of tremors, residents grapple with the stark reality of shortages in vital supplies such as food and water.

Rescue and relief efforts are further hampered by the treacherous conditions on the ground. Roads are obstructed by a disarray of debris and rocks, making it exceedingly challenging for search and rescue teams to reach the affected areas promptly. The nation watches with bated breath as authorities and volunteers work tirelessly to mitigate the aftermath of this devastating earthquake
