A joyous wedding celebration in the Emirati city of Ras Al Khaimah turned to tragedy when the groom's four-year-old brother drowned in a drain at the family home, reported the Gulf News.

A senior police official said the groom's father called in the public works department at the Ras Al Khaimah Municipality to clean the drains. The house was busy as relatives rushed from one room to another, getting ready for the wedding celebration.

A foreman and a laborer arrived and began cleaning the drains. They pumped out the dirt and loaded it on their truck. They continued to work and soon realized that the truck could not take any more.

They stopped and drove off to dump the rubbish. The police official claimed that they forgot to replace the cover of one of the drains.

The police official said: "It happened around noon on Tuesday. All the family members had left the house and had gone to various markets to make last-minute purchases.

"The four-year-old boy was left in the care of a housemaid. The boy ambled into the garden and went towards the drain. He must have lost his balance and fallen in."

The official added that the two men returned to the house to finish cleaning the drain.

"As they pumped out more dirt, they were startled to see a body. They fished out the child.

"The boy drowned in the drain, and the body must have been in the dirty water for 30 minutes to an hour," he added – Albawaba.com
