The Red Crescent Society (RCS) of the United Arab Emirates received on Sunday a donation of Dh2 million from the Al Fuhaim Group, said the Emirates’ official news agency (WAM).
The donation, which was divided into two halves, came to support the RCS charity campaigns in Afghanistan and Palestine.
The amount was received during the reception of Isa Abdul Jalil Al Fuhaim, the director of private affairs at the Al Fuhaim Group of companies, by Abdullah Aqeeda Al Muhairi, the deputy director of the RCS for administrative and financial affairs.
During the reception, Muhairi presented a briefing on the efforts made by the Emirates’ RCS to support charitable and humanitarian fields inside and outside the country.
Fuhaim voiced appreciation for the role of society in extending support to the needy and to those afflicted by disasters worldwide.
Meanwhile, a senior official at the RCS has said that the committee will spend Dh3.1 million on its humanitarian operations during the holy fasting month of Ramadan.
Saleh Al Mulla, assistant secretary general for external affairs, said that this budget allocation would be used abroad to assist poor Muslim families during Ramadan, offering them iftar, or fast-breaking meals, and Eid clothing.
He said the overseas operations, which will cover 25 countries, would also include distributing zakat, or alms, to those needy Muslims.
The RCS had earmarked Dh1 million for the iftar meals, another million for zakat, Dh100,000 for Eid clothing and Dh1 million for charity work in Palestine – Albawaba.com
