Emirates Bank, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, has expanded its wide-reaching network of branches with the addition of a branch at Dubai Women’s College. Emirates Bank and the Dubai Women’s College have reached an agreement bringing about a unified emphasis on the learning and development of Emirati women with a view of encouraging their participation in the banking sector.
Mr. Louis Scotto, Emirates Bank General Manager- Retail Banking and Dr. Howard Reed, Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT) Senior Director and Dubai Women’s College (DWC) Director, signed the agreement to open the branch at DWC. The intent of the agreement is to further the development and training of UAE national students of DWC for employment in the financial services and banking sectors in Dubai and specifically for employment by Emirates Bank.
Mr. Louis Scotto, Emirates Bank General Manager, Retail Banking commented by saying, “With a 2007 promise to widely spread our branches across the nation and conveniently meet the needs of our wide customers base, we are proud to launch our second branch within an educational campus. The Dubai Women’s College branch will effectively serve and educate the students of the college. It will hopefully encourage those interested in the banking sector to pursue their career in this growing industry. meUNIVERSITY products, to include the meUNI Credit Card, will be readily available to the students at the college.”
“This agreement provides our students with an excellent opportunity to ‘Practice the Future’ by applying their in-class learning material to a real-life work experience,” said Dr. Reed. “We will continue to seek such partnerships in order to align DWC program offerings with industry standards and requirements,” he added.
The partnership with EBI was initially established by DWC’s Business Department. “It began with an ATM initiative then grew into a learning partnership,” said Dr. Monica Gallant, Business Department Chair at DWC.
“The agreement with EBI provides an authentic context for student learning and increases awareness of the Financial Services industry as a good career prospect,” noted Dr. Gallant.
The Emirates Bank Branch at DWC will provide DWC’s students and graduates with hands-on real world work experience, learning opportunities, and employment. DWC Business students will work in the Emirates Bank branch for 2 hours each day on a rotational basis, while Financial Services students will work on projects with the bank. The branch will be based in the Student Center complex on DWC campus and will operate Sunday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
