Kuwait's Emir, Sheikh Jaber Al Ahmed Al Sabah, underwent surgery in the United States on Monday for a dilated blood vessel in his left leg, his office said in a statement.
Sheikh Jaber, who suffered a brain hemorrhage in 2001, was reported in "good and stable" condition, according to the statement carried by KUNA news agency.
Alicia Sokol, spokeswoman for the Cleveland Clinic, said the Emir arrived at the clinic on May 18 for a routine check up and was scheduled for Monday's surgery after an evaluation.
The Emir was scheduled to leave the hospital Tuesday, but Sokol said she did not know if he would immediately return to Kuwait.
