The Election Management Committee (EMC) held a meeting with the Fujairah Election Committee yesterday. The meeting comes as part of the EMC continuing effort’s to finalize election procedures for the upcoming FNC elections that are set to take place on December 16, 18, and 20 of this year.
The meeting was attended Dr. Saeed Al Ghafli, Assistant Secretary-General of the FNC Affairs Ministry and Emirates sub-committee coordinator, and Saeed Al Damhani, Head of Fujairah Election Committee, and members of the committee khaled Mohamed Al Jasem, Abdullah Mohamed Al Shujaa and Lt. Colonel Abdullah khalaf Al Sighiri.
The meeting discussed the mechanisms of implementing the election by-laws. The EMC also reviewed suggestions made by the sub committee on the organizational plans which have been set to ensure the success of the FNC elections.
Dr. Saeed said: “The NEC awareness program emphasizes the importance of building strong communications with each emirate sub committee. The sub-committees play a crucial role due to its direct interaction with the Electoral College members. We want to ensure the flow of information and messages, and this meeting is a step towards ensuring the success of the UAE’s first-ever FNC elections.”
Each emirate sub-committee is comprised of five members, led by a representative of the Ruler’s Court or Diwan, and including representatives from the police and municipality as well as two public figures. The sub-committees are responsible for providing permanent offices in each emirate, and securing the human resources and technical capacity required.
Each sub-committee will also be the communications channel between the NEC and members of the Electoral College. They will also possess the updated Electoral College list which includes the addresses and other details of Electoral College members. They are also tasked with notifying members of any new information regarding the FNC elections, and managing all the logistical aspects of the elections.
Established by presidential decree in December 2005, the National Elections Committee is assigned to supervise the upcoming elections scheduled to take place in December 16, 18, and 20 of 2006.
