At least 11 Algerians were killed and 15 others were injured by suspected Muslim fundamentalists in several skirmishes across northern part of the country, reports said.

According to Kuwait’s official news agency (KUNA), attacks were resumed Wednesday once again against shepherds in the countryside after slaughtered a shepherd and kidnapped two others in two separate incidents 400 kilometers west of Algiers.

Local sources were quoted by Al Yawm newspaper as saying that an ex-member of the outlawed Islamic salvation front was shot dead by Islamist extremists who oppose president Bouteflika's civil cohabitation policy.

Dubbed "repentees" by the local press, front fighters who were all pardoned by the authorities had been murdered in acts of vengeance by both pro-authorities and opposition gunmen to negotiate their demands, KUNA said.

Following last Tuesday’s explosion in a university transport station in the capital, the press attacked the Algerian security authorities, as they seem incapable of ensuring peace and stability throughout the fasting month Ramadan, which last year witnessed a bloody episode of civil war – Albawba.com
