Eleven armed Islamic extremists have been captured by Algerian security forces in the Boumerdes region, some 50 kilometers east of Algiers, papers reported Sunday.

The insurgents, who were captured at the end of last week, are believed to be responsible for several attacks carried out in the region between the years 1994 and 1999, the papers said. They were arrested following an attack on July 19 when two police and a civil guard were killed by a bomb while travelling in a convoy near Sidi Daoud, according to AFP. (Albawaba.com)
