Tehran has expressed its "readiness" to ink the additional protocol to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) allowing tougher UN inspections of its nuclear sites, IAEA director Mohamed ElBaradei said Thursday after talks with a top Iranian official.
The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency said he got assurances by Hassan Rowhani, the secretary of Iran's Supreme Council on National Security, that Tehran would also seek to provide answers for a number of questions regarding its nuclear plans.
Upon his arrival to Iran, Elbaradei refreshed calls on Iran to adopt transparency toward its nuclear energy program, noting that this would guarantee Iran's interests as well as those of the international community.
"To ensure the interests of Iran and the international community, we should witness full transparency of Tehran's policy in its nuclear energy activities and Tehran's required cooperation to be able to settle important issues and problems as soon as poss ible," Elbaradei told a news conference, according to IRIB.
