The Moroccan sportsman Hicham El-Guerrouj has been awarded the title of sportsman of Morocco for the eight time running, according to Moroccan press sources. This marks the ninth time that the Olympic Champion has won. El-Guerrouj has made a name for himself particularly in the 1,500 and 5 000 meter races.
Morocco has a strong long distance running tradition and El-Guerrouj in particular has considered single-handedly contributed to a better international image of Morocco, thanks to his sporting achievements and international renown.
