Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak received on Thursday a telephone call from US President George W. Bush during which the two leaders discussed ways to combat terrorism worldwide, reported A Messa newspaper.
Mubarak also discussed the topic over phone with German Councilor Gerhard Schroeder, said the paper.
On Wednesday, UN Secretary General Kofi Annan called the president to discuss the situation in the United States a day after the terrorist attacks, the official MENA news agency said.
Mubarak underlined during the call "the importance of restarting his initiative for an international conference on the fight against terrorism," the report said.
The Egyptian president repeatedly called several years ago for a global anti-terrorism conference, after the country was hit by a wave of attacks by Islamic fundamentalists during the 1990s.
His foreign minister Ahmad Maher was quoted in local press as blaming the world for not responding to Mubarak’s call.
