A leader in Pakistan's Muslim community has expressed satisfaction with the decision of the governments of Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Iran not to allow the United States to use their territory for military strikes against Afghanistan. Pakistan Muslim League's Punjab Secretary General Khwaja Saad Rafiq on Monday advised leaders of Pakistan, the United Arab Emirates and Indonesia to follow suit.
In a press statement quoted by Dawn newspaper, he said a better option for Pakistan was to call a meeting of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC).
He said a US attack on Afghanistan or action to capture Osama bin Laden in the absence of irrefutable evidence of the Saudi dissident's involvement in the September 11 attacks would be unjustified aggression that would jeopardize world peace.
Pakistan has been shaken by several large anti-US demonstrations in recent days, and there are reports of Pakistanis leaving to fight alongside Afghnaistan's Taliban regime based on ideas of Muslim solidarity – Albawaba.com
