The Egyptian Press Association (EPA) has stressed that it will obey an order by the head of the judicial committee supervising it elections that five journalists obtain membership at the syndicate, in implementation of a court order.

Secretary general of the association, Yahya Qallash, told Albawaba.com that the council has informed both the committee and the journalists in question of its readiness to proceed with the procedures of their enrollment.

The five new members have previously been denied membership and won a lawsuit they filed against the EPA. But the incumbent chief and council of the association failed to implement the court order.

According to observers, had the syndicate declined to respond positively to the orders of the committee, elections would have been delayed because the journalists in question will in that case be denied their right to vote, which secured under the court ruling.

According to a statement circulated by these journalists, law is the basis of any civilized society, and if the union’s council rejects to implement law, they have no legitimacy to be in their positions.
